Dental hygienists are mainly concerned with ‘preventive’ dental health and treating gum disease – showing you the correct home care and helping you to keep your teeth and gums healthy.
Our dental hygienists, Samantha and Stephanie, will professionally clean your teeth by removing plaque and tartar (usually called a ‘scale and polish’). They will measure your gum pockets and check for bleeding and other signs of periodontal disease. They may also use an air-flow (‘jet wash’) cleaner to remove staining, leaving the teeth feeling and looking remarkably clean.
However, perhaps the hygienist’s most important role is showing you the best way to keep your teeth free of plaque. Plaque is a sticky coating that forms constantly on your teeth. Hygienists also give advice about diet and about preventing tooth decay. Samantha and Stephanie will work with our dental team to give you the care that is tailored to your needs and help you to maintain a healthy mouth.
